I firmly believe that if a flaw/defect bothers you enough, you should do something about it!
An example would be if you feel that you're ugly and can't stand looking at your face, you should do something to remedy the situation i.e. go for plastic surgery or put on makeup/improve your makeup skills.
People can say that these concerns are perceived flaws and the root cause is psychological. Hence, the remedy is to change your perspective of yourself, develop self-confidence etc!
Regardless of it being psychological or not, you should deal with the problem. If it bothers you so much that you get depressed, THEN it's not so simple as an attitude-change!
Let's say makeup makes you look better. You'll start feeling confident about yourself and that's a step towards developing self-confidence. Practical steps are required rather than hazy solutions that you don't know how to adopt.
Personally, I've dealt with self-image issues for the longest time. I dislike the way I look. I've always thought "一个人怎么会有那么多缺陷?!"
Of course I've been told that I look fine, that I should stop being a whiny ungrateful bitch because I have all my limbs intact, I'm not disabled and don't have health issues etc. Well, people should learn to compare apples with apples instead of getting their perspectives confused!
People aren't born with self-image disorders. The environment, society, lifestyle, tons of factors push them into developing such disorders. As a child, you don't know how evil the human heart can be. Think children are innocent and pure? Children can be mean and cruel as well. At that age, slights become magnified and embedded in the child's psyche. Gradually, they start doubting themselves, feeling inferior and unable to raise their heads. If it's linked to looks, it's an image disorder. Many times, it's linked to an inferiority complex. Do children tell their parents these things? Many times no. They don't even realise that it's happening!
In order to feel better, I want to look better. Is that wrong? Yes it's not all about looks BUT why should I be denied that basic right?
