Just wondering if anyone else's parents know their friends by way of nicknames?

I swear my folks (brother inclusive) don't know the names of most of my friends. Personally I don't know my brother's friends by name as well.
It's hilarious when my parents refer to this boy as Kovan (not hard to guess where he lives right?) at home and then when they chat with the boy's parents, they're like oh you know your son Kovan... OH uh I mean...

It's like who names their kids Kovan? Or Serangoon? I told my brother maybe his friends' parents call him Sengkang.

It's sad and also funny. Nicknamed by location, job, the car you drive, traits...
