I don't follow Stomp but I was hovering at a friend's fb page and saw this link to an article.
Which, come to think of it - is about what?
The more interesting link - Only date ACSi boys ...
I read it and wasn't too incensed or anything since I'm not from a boys' school and have no school honor to defend. Yea.. was just browsing the comments when I saw who the blogger was.
Proposed schoolboy talent pageant... (Second article)
HAHA.
I guess she hasn't changed one bit. Still cynical, still sarcastic with a razor sharp tongue.
Felt quite amused since I do remember the characters in the story.
But anyway, I don't know why netizens have taken an innocent post out of context and made it look like such a big deal.
There is such a thing called freedom of speech. Sure, opinions might be controversial at times but they were posted on a private page, not a public forum. There was no intention to share that opinion with every one and anyone.
I understand that netizens might be enraged because they're being stereotyped as ugly/ boring/ repetitive/ poorly dressed, by virtue of the school they go to.
Don't all schools have a stereotype? And we laugh at them. This isn't a vicious personal attack so why the subsequent flaming and name-calling.
Not that I'm defending her but I maintain that we have a right to our opinion.
I admit that when I was in sec sch, top of the hierarchy was undoubtedly ACSi. We know them as being loud and obnoxious but you need to have the confidence to be those things, ain't that right?
Our brother school ... ... let's just not go into detail. Well, I have a few friends from there. One of my favorite persons is from there and he's fine. Not just okay fine, but Fine fine. Yea, know what I'm talking about? Haha!
But anyway, the general sentiment was the girls weren't too psyched that our brother school was ... you know. I think it was the uniform. Not your fault, boys. Someone, a long time ago, had bad taste. I think you agree.
I don't know if it's me or the girls I know but if you're from ACSi, the response would be a Woww.... *admiring*
I've heard guys complaining about that acsi effect before haha. They'll be all "What do they have that we don't?!"
Anyway, things are different now since we're out of school. I'm no longer impressed if someone says he's from ACSi. Because ultimately, your school shapes your character to some extent but it doesn't define you. There wasn't a strictly-imposed condition that you had to be athletic and cute to get into a school right? So... yea.
Over the years, the bubble has popped. Now, I'm more like, ACSi? Right.
